Professor’s book addresses new technology used in embedded computer-controlled systems

UIC Professor Sabri Cetin has released the two-volume book “Embedded Control of Dynamic Systems, Volume 1

Almost all mechanical systems have embedded control computers. Classic mechanical engineering technology, such as a car’s diesel engine, has one of the most sophisticated embedded controllers.

To help students and practicing engineers keep up with changing technology, Professor Sabri Cetin has released the two-volume book “Embedded Control of Dynamic Systems, Volume 1 and 2.”

This book covers the fundamental mathematical principles and software development technologies that are used in the design of embedded computer-controlled systems.

What makes the book unique are examples of control systems reflect the latest technologies used in industry. Cetin highlights electronic control units and programmable logic controllers, which are embedded in controller hardware that is prevalent in mobile equipment and factory automation.

“I used examples from real-world applications,” Cetin said. “The great textbooks that were published 40 or 50 years ago have completely outdated examples. The fundamental mathematics remains the same. However, now we use computational tools more.”

The book is based on Cetin’s research and his extensive industry experience as a consultant.

“I’ve been working on this for more than 10 years,” he said. “I am continuously learning and keeping up with the latest technologies being used in industry.”

The book costs $9.99 for an electronic copy. As an educator, Cetin’s goal is to make the book affordable for students worldwide. He will be donating a portion of the proceeds to UNICEF on an ongoing basis.
