Registration is open for the IMPACT Engineering Experience summer camp hosted by the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.
The hands-on program is designed for ambitious high school students looking for an immersive introduction to the fields of mechanical and industrial engineering and who want to bridge the gap between theory and hands-on experiments.
Participants have the opportunity to work in the Engineering Design Lab, Fluid Dynamics Lab, and CAD design studio, using rapid prototyping tools to build, code, and fabricate solutions to complex challenges.
To provide a complete picture of an undergraduate engineering career, the curriculum is paired with exclusive access to the UIC Engineering campus, including guided tours of active research labs and the UIC Makerspace.
Students will rotate through intensive engineering modules designed to build skills in fabrication, logic, and design. Topics include:
- Design Engineering (Rapid Prototyping & Innovation)
- Automotive Engineering (Drivetrain Kinematics & Chassis Design)
- Applied AI (Machine Learning Logic & Neural Networks)
- Fluid Dynamics (Hydraulic Actuation & Robotic Manipulation)
- Smart Manufacturing (Automation & Lean Six Sigma)
The camp is open to students entering grades 10–12 in the fall, and there will be two identical sessions available. Session one runs from July 27–31, and session two is August 3–7. Each session costs $500 per student, which includes a daily lunch at the Student Center East dining hall and all project materials.
